Can trade of the year for last year be nominated for Morrow + Scherzer for Webb + Sabbathia + $60?

no...you only say that because you look at this trade. I consider Nathan nothing since his career might be over, so its really only Scherzer for Papelbon. Remember, you traded Webb for Hellickson. I also traded Morrow, Riemold (fa pickup) and Jim Johnson (fa pickup) for Aramis Ramirez. So, right now this trade stands at:

Aramis Ramirez and Jonathan Papelbon for Jeremy Hellickson and CC Sabathia + 60. I took a risk and the guys I got fro you didnt pan out as I hoped, but I have made the best of it. I dont think this is "trade of the year" material.

Forgetting other trades, lets just look at the original deal:

Webb - out for season
Sabathia: 19w 197k 3.37 era 1.15 whip
Scherzer: 9w 174k 4.12 era 1.34 whip
Morrow - I got 6 saves out of him
...obviously, you win.

So, why dont I think this is the "trade of the year"? First, you traded 2 25 year olds for 2 29 year olds. Its not that big of a deal, but that would be a trade I would expect from a team in the upper half hoping to compete. I dont think it made sense for a team trying to rebuild. Second, this trade was a part of me dumping Sabathia, Webb and Peavy. I was either dumping all of them or none of them. I am glad that these trades led to Papelbon, Ramirez and Price, and I would rather have those 3 right now than Peavy, CC and Webb. Third, it did move your team from 14th to 8th, but how much did it actually help? Your pitching went up 15.5 points from a year ago, but your IP's also went up 100 innings.

I dunno what would be trade of the year instead, but the end result is that I still won the league and you still came in the bottom half of the league. Also, if you look at the overall stats you received from this trade, they are average at best when spread across both CC and Webb relative to what you expected at the beginning of the year.

My verdict: not trade of year

Trade of the year is no question, Andy Strniste (Ligers) wins. I gave him Zack Greinke and Josh Johnson for Ryan Doumit and Ben Sheets.
