I confirm that this is the truth.

Steve, may Milton Bradley provide a jolt of life to your team comparable to the force of being sucker-punched in the face by a Puerto Rican.

Congratulations on PLR, Steve.

petty larceny roto?

You got it.

You'll see what a minor mistake that wasn't when Javy leads the Braves to a wild card berth!

GTR Connor.

Steve, $20 says Milton doesnt see more than 140 games.

Zach said...

140? I would consider taking the under on a over/under 100 games bet.

Lance said...

Zach - if you want the under of 100 games played for Milton ill take it. $10?

I put the line around 140.

bradley had that freak injury a couple of years ago... it's not like javier vazquez has a healthy history of consistent results either. in terms of pure talent, i don't think anyone would claim that i got the short end of the stick.

lol freak injury? Milton Bradley games played in his career:

2000 - 42
2001 - 77
2002 - 98
2003 - 101
2004 - 141
2005 - 75
2006 - 96
2007 - 61
2008 - 126

Vasquez, contrary to steves belief, is almost the model of consistency...33,32,34,34,32,33,33,32,33 are his start totals over the same time period.

look at the results vazquez posts. at least when bradley plays, he puts up consistent results. you know to bench bradley when he's injured, but you don't know to bench vazquez when he's about to give up 7 runs (even while maintaining his impressive k-rate)

Gotta side with Steve on this one.

i wasnt arguing who got the better deal...you just said that vasquez has not had a consistent health history and that bradley had 1 freak injury...i wanted to point out that vasquez in fact has been very healthy and milton on the other hand has had much more than 1 injury

Bradley Consistancy: (i dont really care, but I am bored and I wanted to look at baseball stats)

Average: Career .280, but since 2003 (when he played his first 100+ game season, which was his 4th year) he has deviated between .267 and .321 (3 seasons above .300 and 3 below .300)...he did have 5 months above .300 last year, which is good.

HR: Since 2003 he has hit 1 hr every 23 AB's. In 07 and 08 he was 1 per 18 and 1 per 16 respectively, which I guess bodes well for you. However, over the last 46 games of the season last year, he only averaged 1 hr every 48 ab's. Lets hope that doesnt carry over.

SB's: He has only been 10 of 15 the past 2 years in SB's, and Texas only ran him 2 times after the allstar break last year.

...dont feel like going over r's and rbi's...avgs for each since '03 are 1 r every 6.14 ab's (92 if he played 162 games) and 1 rbi every 6.5 ab's (87 per 162)

SO...I would disagree that he puts up consistant results. His average over the past 6 seasons has been all over the place (higher last season, so lets hope that keeps going). His power was inconsistant last year (1 per 14 abs pre allstar break, 1 every 48 afterwards, both of which are big differences from his career average of 1 per 23 abs). He isnt really a SB factor, and without going into it much, he seems to be average at best in runs and rbi's.

I agree, Vazquez has his ups and downs too. Also, given that you have a ton of pitchers and need OF's, its very understandable why you would want to do this deal. I dont think its GTR at all, when you factor in that Connor is getting a #4 pitcher (#5 if joba starts) and Steve is getting a starting OF. All I am saying is, in response to your defense of Milton having only 1 freak injury and being consistant, I do not agree.

Knowing that he hit most of his hr's at home (1 every 12.5 at home, 1 every 37 away) and he is in a new ballpark, I think you will be disappointed in Mr Bradley Steve. At best, I think he puts up .310 65 18 65 5. Then again, I traded Peavy, Webb, Sabathia, Young and draft dollars for Scherzer, Price and Morrow, so what do I know?

Connor Tapp said...

I got screwed!

Steve, you didn't tell me that we had 3 OF positions instead of just 2!

I would have NEVER traded Bradley if I knew this.

I finished seventh last year, so you should have at least given me Jimmy Rollins for Milton Bradley.

Now I can move on to my real comment.

These are my favorite trades: flawed talent for flawed talent where the trading parties are perhaps the only members in the league that see the value in trading for them.

Zach said...

Lance and I did one of those in the first season....Francisco Cordero for Jose Valverde. Valverde at the time was in AAA and Cordero was giving up hr's left and right. Turned out well for both of us in the end.

Connor Tapp said...

Lance and I also did one last year. Carlos Delgado for Joaquin Benoit... both were later cut, and one (guess which) was picked up by Mr Markham for great profit.

Just think: if I hadn't cut Delgado, my team probably would have been good enough that I wouldn't have had enough money to ignite this class warfare wildfire.

Zach said...

Think about this...I "cheated" to get Andruw Jones...who I traded for Verlander and Harang....then I traded Harang for Hamels, who Connor got by trading Andruw Jones straight up for Hamels...

I think it would be interesting if we could find out which player has been on the most teams since the beginning. I know Milton has been on my team before, so he would definitely be a top candidate.

Connor Tapp said...

Don't forget that Andruw Jones' reciprocal, Cliff Lee, was included in that deal.

Jones was a career All-Star who suddenly became utterly inept.

Lee, a career fifth starter who suddenly became an ace.

... What a funny game.

Steve said...

Jones was one of my drops this year, and I know he was on JR's team and of course he started on Drew's team. What is that, four or five teams he's been on?

Of course, given the trade I just made with Jamie, Juan Pierre has been on my team several times, he's been on Connor's team, on Lance's team, on Andy Strniste's team, I think he's been on Matt Tokarz's team (I could be wrong), and now he's on Jamie's team. When having the league-whore discussion, we must never leave out Juan Pierre.
